Add to Cart notifications: Why GA4 is required
Add to Cart notifications require Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to track cart events. Without GA4 installed and working, these notifications won't show data. Use alternative notification types if GA4 isn't available.
add_to_cart events.Why GA4 is Required
- Add to Cart events are tracked by Google Analytics 4
- The app reads these GA4 events to show notifications
- Without GA4: No cart event data available
- Without data: Notifications can't show Add to Cart information
How to Check if GA4 is Working
- Go to your Shopify store settings
- Check if GA4 is installed and configured
- Test by adding a product to cart
- Check GA4 dashboard for
add_to_cartevents - If events aren't showing: GA4 needs configuration
- Add to Cart notifications won't show data
- Use alternative notification types (see below)
Alternative Solutions
Alternative | Why It Works | When to Use |
|---|---|---|
Recent Orders | Uses order data (stronger social proof) | Most stores |
Product Views | Tracks page views (doesn't need GA4) | Browsing activity |
Static | Custom messages (no data needed) | Immediate results |
Setting Up GA4
- Install GA4 in Shopify (Settings → Customer events)
- Configure GA4 to track
add_to_cartevents - Wait 24-48 hours for data to accumulate
- Then Add to Cart notifications will work
Next Steps:
- Verify GA4 is installed and tracking events
- If not using GA4: Switch to Recent Orders or Product Views
- See "Which notification type should I use?" for alternatives
