Add to Cart notifications: Why GA4 is required

Add to Cart notifications require Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to track cart events. Without GA4 installed and working, these notifications won't show data. Use alternative notification types if GA4 isn't available.

Add to Cart notifications track when visitors add products to cart. This data comes from Google Analytics 4 (GA4) events. If GA4 isn't installed or working, these notifications won't show data.

Requirement: Both Recent Add to Cart and Total Add to Cart require GA4 to be installed and tracking add_to_cart events.

Why GA4 is Required

  • Add to Cart events are tracked by Google Analytics 4
  • The app reads these GA4 events to show notifications
  • Without GA4: No cart event data available
  • Without data: Notifications can't show Add to Cart information

How to Check if GA4 is Working

  1. Go to your Shopify store settings
  2. Check if GA4 is installed and configured
  3. Test by adding a product to cart
  4. Check GA4 dashboard for add_to_cart events
  5. If events aren't showing: GA4 needs configuration

If GA4 Isn't Working:
  • Add to Cart notifications won't show data
  • Use alternative notification types (see below)

  2. Configure GA4 to track add_to_cart events
  3. Wait 24-48 hours for data to accumulate
  4. Then Add to Cart notifications will work

Next Steps:

  • Verify GA4 is installed and tracking events
  • If not using GA4: Switch to Recent Orders or Product Views
  • See "Which notification type should I use?" for alternatives
