Device targeting: Mobile vs desktop notifications
Control which devices see your notifications by selecting Mobile Only, Desktop Only, or All Devices. This helps you customize the experience for different screen sizes and user behaviors.
Device Targeting Options
Option | Shows On | Best For |
|---|---|---|
All Devices | Desktop, tablet, mobile | Most campaigns (default) |
Desktop Only | Desktop computers only | Desktop-specific campaigns |
Mobile Only | Mobile phones only | Mobile-specific campaigns |
How to Set Device Targeting
- Go to campaign → Edit → Rule Options tab
- Find "Device Type" dropdown
- Select: All Devices, Desktop Only, or Mobile Only
- Save campaign
- Test on target device to verify
Use Cases
Desktop Only:
- Complex messages that need more space
- Testing desktop layout
- Desktop-specific promotions
- When mobile experience is different
Mobile Only:
- Mobile-specific offers
- Testing mobile experience
- Mobile-optimized messages
- When desktop experience is different
Best Practices
Practice | Why |
|---|---|
Start with "All Devices" | Maximum reach |
Only restrict if you have a specific reason | Don't limit unnecessarily |
Test on actual devices | Browser resize ≠ real device |
Consider your audience's device usage | Match their behavior |
Testing
Device | How to Test |
|---|---|
Desktop | Test on actual computer |
Mobile | Test on actual phone (not just browser mobile view) |
Verification | Verify notifications appear/disappear correctly |
Positioning | Check positioning looks good on target device |
- Setting wrong device type by accident
- Not testing on actual devices
- Assuming browser mobile view = real mobile
- Forgetting to save after changing
Next Steps:
- Edit campaign → Rule Options tab
- Change Device Type setting
- Test on target device
- See "How do I edit a campaign?" for more details
